I really didn't find any insight from this book. The big suggestions are to save money by using craigslist to get used equipment. I guess I was looking for ideas on planning the layout and key items in my home gym and that was not the goal of this book.

The Ultimate Home Gym Guide edition by Mighty Joe Stankowski Health Fitness Dieting eBooks Reviews

Most books like this that I have read is simply rehashed common sense. However, Joe goes above and beyond in the Ultimate Home Gym Guide. It covers every single base you could think of, from how to get the cheapest equipment possible, heating your home gym, and all the way to how much weight your floor can hold. It really is one of the most useful books you'll ever buy. It's a must have for anyone looking to build the home gym of their dreams, making them the envy of the neighborhood, but it's also a must have for trainers. Just because you work in a gym setting doesn't mean you can't supplement what the gym already has with some of your own equipment. Joe gives you valuable advice on how to get that equipment without having to take out a small loan to get it.

If you want to train like Arnold in your own home, this is the book that will help you accomplish that.
I love that he's not trying to sell you stuff. Stankowski is just as happy to help you buy a jumprope as an elliptical - he just wants you to workout. What do you need? What will you use? It's nice knowing that I can find a deal on stuff I may want in the future, but I feel validated in sticking with my jumprope and kettlebell in my tiny apartment.
The English major in me was tickled reading it because it didn't have the weird typos and grammar issues so many lifting publications do. Nice read.
I'm a big advocate of training at home (hate dealing with crowds in a gym), but I typically stick with body-weight exercises -- now I'm seriously pondering building my very own home gym.

Having a home gym = a thought that's crossed my mind, but I never pursued, because I didn't know where to start. Thanks to Joe, now I know.

Some things discussed
-What kind of equipment to consider
-A long list of places to get this equipment without paying an arm and a leg
-Safety/convenience considerations
-Non-traditional DIY "build your own equipment" ideas
-All kinds of things

If you're thinking of investing in a home gym, I'd suggest you read this first. It'll definitely save you some time, money, and trouble.
I know Joe, and I expected his home-gym guide to be all the things it is complete, authoritative, useful, detailed, and entertaining to read. What I didn't expect is how much Joe includes that wouldn't have occurred to me. (And I say this as someone who wrote a book on training at home.) He has lots of options for picking up equipment at rock-bottom prices -- a fraction of their retail value -- and even explains how he's acquired high-quality equipment for free.

Most unexpected was a discussion of home construction, to help readers figure out how much weight their floors can handle.

This is along with exceptionally practical information on maintaining the equipment you have, and even building some of your own training tools.

If you're planning to set up a new home gym, or expand on what you have, I give this book my highest recommendation.
I have a home gym in my garage and I am always looking to improve it. I really liked this book as it goes in detail about various equipment one would need to set up the most basic or elaborate gym at home. I like that the author provides you with links to where you can purchase the equipment and alternate suggestions. I really liked the part about flooring for deadlifts etc. as that is one space I need to improve at my home as I have a concrete floor in my garage. We're using a really cheap foam pad flooring and would love to get the thicker pads that don't cost us an arm and a leg...the book gives you information for it. Plus, I love that as a prime member I can borrow the book from the lending library )
Lots of good info if you're serious about building a home gym at a cost or just need more resources on where to find equipment.
Not quite the "ultimate" guide. I have a pretty good started gym and was taking it to the next level. This did not cover in any depth Smith cages, cable systems, functional trainers, etc.

Provides a good start though if you've got nothing and want a starter guide.
I really didn't find any insight from this book. The big suggestions are to save money by using craigslist to get used equipment. I guess I was looking for ideas on planning the layout and key items in my home gym and that was not the goal of this book.
