For a relatively short book, this one is packed with information. From basic concepts to more advanced tips, everything is clearly explained, with photos illustrating the concepts. My favorite part might be the troubleshooting section with fixes for common digital photography mistakes.
Highly recommended to anyone who wants to improve their digital photography. It can take you from "point and shoot" to better understanding and using your camera.
This author makes the same mistake most all writers make with explaining DSLR concepts. They say something like, this setting lets more light in....Okay, but why? Someday someone will write the purpose behind letting more light in and show the illustration of more light vs less light, etc. when the concept is brought up in the explanation. This particular book lost me by showing the common dial of a camera in a pic to start off with. Yikes. I don't need this. That's like showing... This is a car... No this book isn't any better at a how to for beginners than any others I've read. Don't throw out concepts like white balance, step metering without good explanation, The author mentions white balance and then tells the reader to consult his manual on where to find this on their camera. We pay for this advice? Nothing at this point why we should select cloudy white balance to do a good sunset.
The writing in general is lame and unprofessional. I did get a good laugh at the style or lack there of in parts. Particularly one part where he is saying you need to get closer to a person when you take their picture, even strangers. If you approach them nicely, they will be okay with it....Wow.
This book is poor in organization also. At one point he states, you can get a noise free image at 100 ISO. This would have been a great place to explain why. What's the difference between 100 and say, 1600. He doesn't do this. Just rambles on.
The tips in here are far from expert. Get closer to your portrait for a better picture? 100 ISO less noise? (These are expert tips?)
At times, this book degenerates into a High School level research paper that, as an English teacher, I would give a D to. Take the section on Lighting. He just has a paragraph on each style that illustrates nothing. But it does show he found line items for lighting somewhere in his research.
No, I would pass on this e-book. Poorly written, typically badly executed. All how to books, even without images, needs to follow the common rule of thumb--show, don't tell. Don't just give a pic of the dial to begin with and go down hill from there. Don't introduce concepts without examples or purpose.
It was easy to understand. I liked the way the author simplified the processes and techniques so a beginner photographer can understand it.

This was an easy read and gave me just enough info to help me out with a new DSLR camera.
It is a short read which bring an excellent advice how to make any picture shot count under different indoor and outdoor environmental. Straight forward reading not too much detail about AF, ISO, EV or speed shutter of your DSLR. Worth the read and it is a highly recommend book.
